The options are truly endless when it comes to designing a custom label. However, it can be easy to make design mistakes with so many choices and so many selections to make. Here are some of the most common label design mistakes to avoid:
Unclear Message
Having an unclear message could mean any of the following:
Unclear messaging can deter consumers from trying your product, so your design must be easy to understand and read. Consumers are highly unlikely to filter through tons of extra details to understand more about a product they don’t already have a connection with. As a result, many brands are now employing clean copywriting to ensure their message is clear. Find out more about clean copywriting in our blog post here.
Inconsistent Fonts
Font is sometimes overlooked, but it is so important in completing the overall design of your label. You can make many mistakes with your fonts, from choosing hard-to-read fonts to using a variety of different fonts on the same label. Even when selecting from the same font family, it’s imperative only to pick one or two variations of the font family (original, italic, bold, etc.), or else your design can look messy and incohesive.
Misuse of White Space
There is such a thing as too much white space and too little white space, and it can be hard to get the balance right! The purpose of white or blank space is to ensure that the consumer’s eye is drawn to where you want them to be looking, which is vital to consider when finalizing your label design.
Incorrect Label Size
Depending on what container you’re using and what type of coverage you’re looking for from a label, there are many different label sizes you can opt for. Of course, it’s imperative to have your dimensions correct as the first step of the design to ensure your design does not get distorted or compressed when it comes to printing.
