Update on Margaret
“We’ve just come back from Africa and are excited to have a letter and photo from Margaret to share with you! We were so proud to see her continue to perform well in school, but we were particularly struck by how her confidence is growing, along with all the other girls in our program. We believe this is due to in part to the mentoring workshops we offer our girls every year, but also to the tangible promise of a better future that One Girl Can has given her.
As her champion, you are an important part of her journey. Margaret knows that this future wouldn’t be possible without your support, and as you can read, she is beyond grateful for this.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for giving Margaret the chance to earn a living, help her family escape poverty, and earn respect for the contribution that she and thousands of other girls will now be able to make in their society.”
Thank you for believing that One Girl Can!
With warm regards,
Lotte, Gabriela, Nicola, Florence & Irene

BiV Award – Biggest Manufacturers in Metro Vancouver

May 16, 2018

Our Company

Associated Labels and Packaging has been recognized by Business in Vancouver in the category “Biggest Manufacturers in Vancouver.” We have three facilities that operate nearly 24/7 and 365 days a year. Our humble beginnings started in 1980 with three employees and one press located in East Vancouver. Now we have expanded to over 200 employees and over 40 presses and associated machines. Our company offers labels and packaging such as bar wrappers, stick packs, tea sachets, shrink sleeves, stand-up pouches, and lidding film. To show our commitment to the food and beverage industry, our company became IFS PACsecure certified. This is the highest global standard a company can achieve in creating “food safe” labels and packaging.

Forward Motion

We took four years to research and develop North America’s first Non-GMO, fully backyard compostable stand-up pouch. We have created outstanding customer service and premium products. AssociatedLP has become the largest and leading label and packaging supplier in Western Canada and the Pacific North West. And we look forward to future awards as we continue to improve through state of the art technology and interdepartmental training. Recognizing and problem solving for our customers lead times, cost or shelf life is where we shine. We look forward to helping customers reach their best possible label and packaging outcomes.

Thank you to Business in Vancouver for recognizing our companies achievements!

We Are Now Certified “Food Safe”

May 7, 2018

Associated Labels and Packaging is proud to announce our successful acquirement of the International Featured Standards (IFS) PACsecure Certification. In other words, our company has become “food safe” in the most vigorous global standard one can achieve.

What does this mean?

In a nutshell, our facility produces labels and packaging which ensure food safety requirements are met within our customers product supply chain.

How do we fit in the picture?

Imagine you are in the grocery store holding a food product such as a stand-up pouch full of quinoa. Now think vertically in the supply chain. These raw materials had to be sourced, processed, packaged safely, and then shipped across the country to grocery stores.

Our companies roll is to ensure protection from biological, chemical and physical hazards within our label and packaging facility. This is because our labels and packaging will enter a facility that handles food products. In the case of our stand-up pouches, bar wrappers and lidding film; our packaging will come in direct contact with food.

Why is this important?

Globalization has meant that our food is being sourced from all corners of the world. Standards about what food safe means across industries and the world vary. International Featured Standards PACsecure raises the bar in meeting new stringent government regulations to protect consumers.

Next Level?

Associated Labels and Packaging thrives at being second to none; taking these difficult steps in becoming IFS PACsecure certified solidifies our place at the top of our industry. We look forward to helping customers thriving to reach their own personal best.

Associated Labels and Packaging Announces Membership with 1% for the Planet

Vancouver, Canada, April 2018 – Associated Labels and Packaging joined 1% for the Planet, pledging to donate 1% of annual sales of their Non-GMO, Backyard Compostable Stand-Up Pouches to support nonprofit organizations focused on the environment.

“AssociatedLP joined 1% for the Planet to further demonstrate our commitment to the environment. Every little bit helps, and we hope to inspire other companies to do the same.”

Members of 1% for the Planet commit to supporting approved environmental nonprofit partners by donating the equivalent of 1% of sales through a combination of monetary, in-kind, and approved advertising contributions. Nonprofits are approved based on referrals, track record and environmental focus. There are thousands of approved nonprofits worldwide.

Collectively, 1% for the Planet Members have donated more than $175 million to environmental nonprofits to-date.

“We are thrilled to welcome Associated Labels and Packaging to our global network,” said Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. “Currently, only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment and, only 3% of that comes from businesses. We need more business like Associated Labels and Packaging to do its valuable part to increase giving and support on the ground outcomes.”

About 1% for the Planet

1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects dollars and doers to accelerate smart environmental giving. We recognize that the current level of environmental giving – only 3% of total philanthropy – is not enough to solve the most pressing issues facing our planet.

Through our business and individual membership, 1% for the Planet inspires people to support environmental organizations through annual membership and everyday actions. We advise on giving strategies, we certify donations, and we amplify the impact of the network.

Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, our members have given more than $175 million to environmental nonprofits to date. Today, 1% for the Planet is a network of more than 1,400 member businesses, a new and expanding core of hundreds of individual members, and thousands of nonprofit partners in more than 60 countries. Associated Labels Launches HP Indigo 20000 Digital Printing Press

January 11, 2018

Associated Labels and Packaging, a leading labels and packaging converter in Western Canada, has completed installation of an HP Indigo 20000 digital press, as it expands its sustainability offering, including digital printing of flexible packaging on eco-friendly materials.

The HP Indigo 20000 digital press doubles digital capacity for Associated Labels and Packaging, operating until now its digital services with two HP Indigo WS6800 digital presses. The 30-inch press will also allow the converter to deliver digitally printed flexible packaging and pouch applications to complement its wide-web flexo printing.

‘The addition of the Indigo 20000 will allow us to provide the market with unlimited short-run packaging. In the past, it was cost prohibitive due to minimum orders. With this technology we can now produce smaller runs for market testing and development, and also stay profitable on smaller runs from existing key customers,’ said Shaun Ashworth, Associated Labels and Packing president.

The Vancouver-area converter, serving western Canada and the Pacific Northwest, has invested in a sustainability program as a strategic company mission, developing a unique backyard compostable stand-up pouch product. The film is also running on the HP Indigo 20000, opening new marketing opportunities.

According to Jay Ashworth, marketing and sustainability manager, specialty brands, including boutique organic and natural products, are increasingly interested in a fully sustainable packaging solution as part of their product marketing. ‘With digital printing on eco film, these innovative products can enjoy high-quality packaging SKUs, test market interest and also stay true to their eco-values.’ he said.

Since starting in a small label printing plant in Vancouver in 1981 Associated Labels and Packaging has grown to over 100,000 square feet, with 24 hour-a-day press runs.

Update: One Girl Can! Margaret, the Gift of Education

A Market First — CKF and AssociatedLP Unveil Peel and Reseal Lidding Film for Earthcycle

October 10, 2017
For Immediate Release:

CKF’s Earthcycle TM brand of certified compostable and recyclable moulded fibre punnets for fresh produce are now available with tamper evident peel and reseal top lidding film.

HANSPORT, NS (October 10th, 2017) – While peel and reseal top lidding film is a well established product in the fresh produce market, due to technical challenges, it has been limited in use to only plastic punnets. Through dedicated development by Associated Labels and Packaging Ltd. with CFK’s Earthcycle TM product line, the companies are pleased to launch a new lidding film that strongly adheres to an Earthcycle TM moulded pulp container but can be easily opened and then resealed with a light touch, multiple times. This is a first-in-market product for a peel and reseal lidding film for non-laminated moulded pulp packaging.

A peel and reseal film solution expands the use of the Earthcycle TM punnets to larger club packs while making it even more consumer friendly. “A peel and reseal lidding solution has been on our target development list since we first presented a top sealed Earthcycle punnet in 2013” says Brad Dennis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for CKF Inc. “We know that with more consumer demand moving towards snacking that a resealable lid is necessary.” Resealable lidding film also offers the consumer convenient storage while the packer and retailer can easily stack the packages in transit and at retail. Merchandising of the final produce is not compromised as the large top seal window provides maximum visibility with an environmentally responsible package.

“Environmental stewardship is a founding principle of our company” says Shaun Ashworth, President of Associated Labels and Packaging Ltd. “It is the reason that we gravitated to the Earthcycle product—with its solid environmental credentials. We wanted to find a way to extend the environmental benefits of the Earthcycle packaging to a wider market and to speak to growing retailer demands by offering a peel and reseal feature for our top lidding film.” An Earthcycle TM punnet with a peel and reseal lidding film uses

90% less plastic than a comparable plastic clamshell which means a reduction in waste to landfill and an increased use of renewable resources.

Samples will be on display at PMA Fresh Summit in CKF Booth 5747 and will be featured in the “Fresh Ideas Showcase.” Representatives of both companies will be on hand to answer further questions on the new product.

Congratulations City of Coquitlam!

September 21, 2017

Associated Labels and Packaging was happy to support the efforts in the City of Coquitlam’s first attempt at the international Communities in Bloom (CiB) competition. Our company was on the tour showcasing our honey bees to the judges, they suited up and came into the compound for a closer look.  The theme for Coquitlam for this years CiB was pollinators so the fit was perfect! We sent the judges off with a jar of last seasons honey, as well as, some samples of our fully backyard compostable, non-GMO,  stand-up pouches. They were impressed!

The City of Coquitlam came in second and achieved Five Blooms – Silver and an “Outstanding Achievement Award for Urban Forestry.” We congratulate the city, and the staff for all their hard work in creating such a wonderful and inclusive program. The city is a greater place for all the time and effort invested.

Check out the judges tour, and see if you can pick out our bee keepers 🙂
