Associated Labels and Packaging is looking for a Human Resources Generalist on a one year contract.

The role: As the sole Human Resources professional, the HR Generalist works closely with the General Manager on people matters. The HR Generalist is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the organization’s human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices, in addition to assisting managers with human resources matters.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and confident handling employee relations independently. This role will be involved in implementing a new HRIS, and will handle all recruitment needs as well as improve and develop new HR practices.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify current and prospective staffing requirements, prepare and post job ads, screen applications
  • Interview job candidates, provide hiring recommendations, and prepare job offers
  • Arrange transfers, redeployment, and placement of personnel
  • Develop and improve personnel policies and procedures
  • Stay abreast on compliance requirements and industry best practices; recommend changes or modifications to existing policies and programs to remain in compliance; and adopt best practices
  • Provide human resources-related advice to Managers
  • Provide resolutions to employee conflicts and incidents through investigations and conflict resolution
  • Address and resolve inappropriate employee behavior and special performance issues
  • Improve the effectiveness of training programs by analyzing existing programs and recommending changes
  • Conduct job analyses and write or update job descriptions
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and complete personnel records
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Complete various HR-related projects as requested by the General Manager
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as required


  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or related discipline
  • A minimum of two years of experience with a wide range of human resources activities in a coordinator or generalist role
  • Strong knowledge of BC employment and health and safety legislation
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively in a diverse environment
  • Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with tact and discretion
  • Organized with demonstrated time management skills
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry is an asset
